Guided Tours
Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu Machu Picchu is a trademark tour in Peru. If you didn't take it you would have nothing to report when you arrive back home 😜 So get ready for 1 day travel which include a train ride, a bus run through the mountains, and finally a walk in an ancient Inca town.

Everything is beautyful there. Mountain peaks alone will make you stand in awe for minutes. Whoever shaped them this way was an indisputable master of his work. Then, you start walking through the ruins and realize how greate they are too. It takes tremendous amount of skill to build something like this, lasting that long, on the hills that high and steep. Subconsciously one wonders where this knowlegde has disappeared nowadays.

If you are a fan of hiking, take an additional hour that climbs to the very top. A fairly civilised walking path leads there, and you will be rewarded with the full and complete view of Machu Picchu.

Rainbow Mountains

Rainbow Mountains This is another tour you cannot miss. The name itself doesn't explain it all although it is very accurate. You will see all 7 rainbow colors there or may be even more if it's sunny. Yeah sure, your new computer monitor has millions of those colors but up gthere it's completely different. At 5.1 km of elevation this place beats your comfortable office chair by a hands down.

Despite the altitude these mountains are relatively easily accessible by tourists. There are bus routes reaching approximately 4.5 km elevation. You only have to climb remaining "mere" 500 meters on foot. If you still cannot do this there are horse backs at your disposal for an additional charge. Donkeys provide a discerning tourist with yet another option.

The trip is usually completed in one day, but it could be extended to multiple days if you already got used to only 50% of oxygen supply.

Titicaca Lake

Titicaca Lake Titicaca is officially recognized as one of seven Earth Chakras. This fact alone should be a good reason to visit the lake. But even without any previous secret knowledge like this the trip to Titicaca is worth of every penny you spend.

Comfortably located at 4,000 m of altitude the lake looks nothing short of a miracle. Just imagine grass islands with their inhabitants living on a wet surface which must be renewed almost every day. For that purpose they make a new grass layer on top. Skipping these surface renewal activities result in thinner islands because the bottom part of grass gets rotten and washed away. The consequences are much harsher than for not paying utility bills: no payment plan is available.

Aside from all that, the Titicaca lake itself presents a challenge for your eyes because there's a limit to beauty that a average human can absorb a day (a theory which has not been proven yet by the official science). The water is as clean as can be and just about as cold. The tour usually starts with a trip on a mid-sized boat which brings you to some remote parts of the lake. It is often accompanied by Bolivian border crossing without any passport control or customs.

Mountain Hiking

Mountains hiking It is sad but true that the majority of the tourists visiting Peru spend their time on the buses and in taxis. It is also quite understandable as they only have 1-2 weeks of vacation which is not enough to get fully adapted to the high altitude. But it is downright unforgivable if you have more time than that and still spend it in your hotel room or in the restaurants. Go hiking!

Peru offers something that no other country can. You are able to reach elevation of 5 km without any equipment or special training. It's chilly there but still quite tolerable, nothing like in Tibet where you just get frozen into one little piece of ice. It's Equator after all 😜. The only thing you need to get started around here is a guide because without knowing the trails by heart you will end up in barbed bushes. You may also find yourself on a steep rock without a slightest idea how you got there or, most important, how to get out. Friendly looking mountains tend to be sometimes punishing and treacherous for those who treat them lightly.
